Mia’s given date of birth is 4/7 (cropped tail)
Cookie’s given date of birth is 4/21(long tail)
Mia is a ringtailed lemur who has been at the sanctuary prior to 2016. Her prior history is unknown. She can be identified by her cropped tail, due to a previous health issue which required cropping her tail. Lemurs use their tails for balance, but she was quick to learn to navigate without it. She is fast and furious, jumping around her enclosure with intent and determination. She is always on security detail, keeping others away from her enclosure, and if getting too close, she will take a swipe at the caregivers with her grooming claw. She is the dominate of the two lemurs and keeps a close eye on her roommate. They can be seen cuddling together and grooming each other. Mia can often be heard responding to alarm calls from our McCaw on the other side of the sanctuary, which they do almost daily.
Cookie is the chubby one with the long tail. She is quiet, calm, moves about slowly and never appears to be in any hurry to do anything. She takes her sanctuary life in stride. She is the last one to get up, the last one to start eating, last to get out of bed and the last to move out of the way of caregivers when needed. She is a sweetheart, very gentle with taking food from a spoon, but is slow with the process. She loves sitting in the sun in a yoga pose and lying around on her hammock.
They both love bananas, grapes, cranberries, fruits of all kinds, romaine lettuce leaves, peanut butter/banana nut oatmeal bars, raisin bread and some veggies.
