Blue has been a resident at the Suncoast Primate Sanctuary for more than 23 years. He was previously a pet whose owners could no longer care for him. Blue is a black-handed spider monkey, which are found in the tropical forests of Central and South America. With his piercing blue eyes, it is easy to see how he got his name.
Blue was born in 1959, he is very active for a senior monkey. He loves to use his long arms and tail to swing and hang from the bars in his enclosure. He’s a popular guy with visitors. Blue is a vocal monkey and can get quite loud when excited. Blue LOVES the attention of his caregivers and having
his chest scratched with a back scratcher.
Food time is always a big hit with Blue, who enjoys leafy greens, grapes, tomatoes, pasta, bananas, really, anything he is given.
