Sheldon is a Sulcata Tortoise just like Sandman (Mr. Big), whose enclosure is located by Pongo in the south side of the property.
While Sandman is a mature male tortoise, Sheldon is quite young. He was born on June 1, 2019.
Why don't we put Sandman and Sheldon together, you ask?
The answer: Two male sulcata tortoises do not make the best of friends. If they could see each other, they would compete for territory and dominance.
if given the opportunity, they may even try to flip each other over onto their backs.
By giving each of them their own territory, they are both at peace and are happy.
Sheldon loves roaming freely in his enclosure during the day, while burrowing himself in his shed at night.
He loves to eat romaine lettuce, collard greens, kale, and his absolute favorite: hibiscus flowers.
Sheldon also loves attention, back rubs, and a nice water spray when it’s hot outside.
Sheldon is new to our community. He was surrendered to SPS by his family in March of 2026.
They still love him and often come to visit.
Sheldon has a long life ahead of him and we are honored to be a part of his journey.
