Drew, a beautiful Albino Boa Constrictor, was a previous pet and was dropped off here at the sanctuary sometime between 2021 and 2022.
Boas can reach 10-16 feet long and can weigh upwards to 200 pounds. They can live 20-30 years.
Boas as a species are ambush predators and prefer to hunt at night. Their prey succomb to suffcocation after the boa squuezes them to death.
Here at the sanctuary, Drew enjoys carefully prepared rats: one rat per week in the hot weather and less in the cold weather due to a slowed metabolism when the temperature drops.
Albino boas have been selectively bred for the pet trade.
Pete Kahl is known to have initally purchased two albino boas for 25,000 dollars.
From there he bred and built the pet population.
Drew is a bit shy, but an absolutely stunning specimen of the speciies.
We wish you the best of luck spotting this beauty in the enclosure.
