Julie is a female orangutan who was born at SPS on March 3, 1989. She currently lives with her sister, Ruby on the Pinellas Trail side of the Great Ape Building. Her mom was Jewel and she lived a long life with her daughters.
Julie loves to clap with her hands above her head and blow raspberries then point to what she wants you to get her, a drink from the hose, some pine needles, there is always something. She has a mischievous side compared to her sister Ruby. She loves playing songs on an electronic keyboard and so enjoys flipping through toddler board books about babies or children.
If given a blanket she immediately unfolds it and wears it like a cape. She is a very beautiful orangutan. Julie’s favorite foods are leafy greens and a variety of fruits. Julie has a sweet tooth and will always ask for a second piece of her natural birthday cake that gets made for her each year. She is a big helper to her caregivers and will help to clean her enclosure by handing sticks or debris out to her caregivers. She also loves to paint pictures and color with chalk.
