exotic birds

Merlin is a Harlequin McCaw. He has a vibrant orange belly and colorful feathers.  

Merlin was a former pet and previously walked freely in a house with multiple other animals. He gets along well with others, even the squirells and birds that sneak into enclosure.  

Merlin loves people and thrives on attention. He loves music and likes to dance, and has a few favorite songs…Justin Timberlake, “can’t stop the feeling”. 

Be sure to take some time to play music for him and dance.
He likes to nibble on a lil pizza crust every now and then, which he refers to as “cracker”. 

Santana is a vibrant green Military McCaw. Has been at the sanctuary prior to 2018, and was also a previous pet. 

In the past he served as one of the Sanctuarys ambassadors.  

Santana would travel around to various schools to help promote education and conservation. 

He likes to chat. He mostly speaks garbled words, but has been known to say “hello, cracker, shut up, step up, bye, and hahaha”.   

If you happen to be at the sanctuary at the right time, you may hear Santana conversing over the sanctuary grounds with Mia, one of our ring-tailed lemurs. They have very involved conversations.

Both of these magnifence birds are well loved and loving. 

They enjoy a variety of seeds, pellets, fruits, pastas, eggs shells, green pepper toppers and many more enrichment foods to keep them happy and healthy.

They are best buddies and well loved by the sanctuary volunteer staff.
