In Loving Memory

We are heartbroken to share the news that we had to say goodbye to our adored chimpanzee Marc. Marc was born in January 1967 and came to the sanctuary after being raised as a pet. Marc was one of the sweetest, most caring souls who loved to sunbathe high on his perch, be groomed by his neighbor Harry,  and play chase with his caregivers. He would intently watch Hannah Montana and loved any video or book about gorillas. Recently, his health declined and our veterinary team made the compassionate decision to help Marc pass on to prevent suffering. Marc leaves a legacy of peace, tenderness, and love.  

Marc is a sweet senior chimpanzee who loves interacting with his caregivers and neighbor, Harry. Marc is about 57 years old. He was raised as a pet and surrendered to the sanctuary many years ago. You will often find Marc sunbathing or relaxing on his perch, he’s one chill dude! 

While his neighbor Harry has been deemed the comedian of the group, Marc wins “most likely to have been a hippie”. When he isn’t chilling out, he loves to play chase with his caregivers. We love that he nods along with us as we chat with him as if he’s saying “I understand”, and we’re sure he does. Marc LOVES bananas. If there were a banana-eating contest, you can bet he would win! He also loves eating entire heads of romaine lettuce and warm oatmeal in the winter. He is an adored, special chimpanzee.
